Looking forward to enhance my knowledge on West Asian region through active participation in the ongoing International Seminar on Fertile Crescent, Great Powers and India convened by Dr. Bansidhar Pradhan, associate professor of Centre for West Asian Studies (CWAS).
Today's inaugural session was quite informative with former visiting professor of Gulf Studies Programme, CWAS, Ambassador Ishrat Aziz speaking in length about Fertile Cresent itself and how often the study of this area gets overshadowed with the larger issue of Arab-Israeli conflict and other issues of the region. It is indeed true that students specializing on West Asia tend to prefer studying more about Israel or Iran or conflict in West Asia or the economic aspects of the region over studying Fertile Cresent. I remember myself choosing other course papers in my M.Phil course work over the paper on Fertile Cresent which was instructed by Dr. Banshidhar Pradhan, the convenor of the ongoing international seminar on Fertile Cresent, Great Powers and India.
Therefore, as a student of West Asian Studies, inorder to make up for the gap of knowledge of the region, it becomes even more necessary for me to make myself present in the seminar. The presence of scholars and academicians from West Asia who would be speaking exclusively on various topics related to Fertile Cresent and the West Asian region as a whole makes the seminar even much more valuable.
